ISU’s Carleton wins Big 12 Player of the Year

IRVING, Texas — Iowa State senior Bridget Carleton was named the Big 12 Player of the Year, becoming the first Cyclone woman to earn the prestigious honor, awarded by the league’s coaches.

Sophomore Kristin Scott (second team), redshirt senior Alexa Middleton (honorable mention) and freshman Ashley Joens (all freshmen team) also were honored by the Big 12.

Carleton was utterly unstoppable in Big 12 action, averaging 20 points or more against every league opponent. In league play, she averaged 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks.

The Big 12’s top player also claimed a league-high six Player of the Week awards in 2018-19, while no other player had more than two. Carleton also was one of five unanimous selections to the All-Big 12 First Team.
