• Gerald F. Stout, 39, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 7:41 p.m. Friday. According to Newton police, officers were called to Walmart to investigate a shoplifting incident. Employees witnessed Stout allegedly walking past the last point of sale while concealing $27.23 worth of items. Stout received a citation, summoning him to appear in court.

• Jorden L. Etter, 21, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 11:58 a.m. Feb. 12. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Newton 66 at 1806 S. 12th Ave. W., for an employee theft. Upon arrival, the store manager told officers about the store’s surveillance footage of Etter allegedly stealing money out of the store’s register. Exactly $500 was put into the register that day to pay the snow plow driver, and when it was time to pay him, only $300 was found. Officers looked at the surveillance footage, which showed Etter allegedly taking money from the register and putting it into his pocket. Etter received a citation, summoning him to appear in court.
