Old Settlers Spaghetti Dinner March 2

Get ready to “Raise a fork for a great cause” at the third annual Old Settlers Spaghetti Dinner. Set to run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. March 2 and CJ’s Bar and Grill, 105 E. Marion St., the dinner is a fundraiser for Monroe’s Old Settlers celebration in early August.

“It’s actually gone really well. Every year we always have a few more people,” organizer Alicia Hansen said.

With spaghetti, lasagna, salad, breadsticks and dessert on the menu, adults can get their fill of the Italian favorites for $10 while kids 10 and under are $6 each. The fundraiser is put together by the Old Settlers committee who also donates the food, cooks it and serve as waiters for the event.

All funds raised will go toward the community-wide celebration which is in its 133rd year.

“Any of the funds are raised or used for anything in Old Settlers, whether it be for entertainment or for prize money for parades, things like that,” Hansen said.

The committee will continue to push to raise money for Old Settlers at the Frosty Nose, Cold Toes 5K sponsored by Jersey Freeze planned for March 30 and at the fourth annual barbecue and car show in June.

Work is also underway planning Old Settlers, which is about six months away, but Hansen didn’t give away any clues as to what the theme will be.

“We are still actually working on booking entertainment as of now,” Hanson said.
