Charlotte L. Whalen

Charlotte Louise Whalen, 88, of Newton, passed away Feb. 11, 2019, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center.

Charlotte was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Newton to Herman and Eva (Rhoads) Hood. Charlotte married Daryle James Whalen Aug. 26, 1950.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daryle; her parents, Herman and Eva (Rhoads) Hood; her stepmother, Leona Hood; her sister, Mary Francis; stepbrother, George Strawser; and great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Lynn Devero.

Survivors are a son, Craig and daughter in law Cheryl from Wagoner, Okla.; daughter, LuAnn Whalen from Round Rock, Texas; five grandchildren, Stephanie Garrison, Natalie Devero, Matthew Whalen, Brandon Whalen and Jacob Whalen; a brother-in-law, Don Whalen; and two sisters-in-law, Barb Ellis and Joan Whalen. Charlotte had 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 at Bar None Cowboy Church, 1690 W. 19th St. S. in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Jasper County would be appreciated.
