Residents in the Colfax area will soon get a chance to play a classic game at one of the more well-known restaurants in the area.
Bingo Night will be taking place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Poppy’s Grub and Pub. The event is put on in cooperation with Colfax Main Street.
Tickets for admission will cost $1 per card, and the winner from Bingo Night will go home with 50 percent of the earnings, while the other half will go toward current Colfax Main Street projects.
Johanna Beason, co-owner of Poppy’s Grub and Pub, said they will bring in people from another restaurant to bring in a meal that seems to be associated with bingo in Colfax.
“Were going to have Becky’s, a restaurant once popular in Colfax, bring their pizza burgers. The relatives of Becky’s are going to come and make their secret recipe for pizza burgers,” Beason said. “Even we don’t know what (the recipe) is. (They’re coming) because Becky’s used to have bingo and pizza burgers.”
This will be the first time the restaurant will host Bingo Night. If the event does what it’s supposed to do, Beason said, it should draw enough interest to become an annual event.
“It is the first time. We’re hoping to do it more often, and to start to see if there’s any more interest in having bingo here,” Beason said. “I believe it was presented by Colfax Main Street, to see if we can host it. We have a large facility, since it’s connected to two different locations.”
As far as why bingo was the game chosen for an event like this, it is a popular game with older people and easy to operate with young people, appealing to all age groups.
“I think it’s because young and old can participate in it. It’s a family-friendly game, and a tradition with Colfax,” Beason said. “We hope people come and have a good time and have family fun.”
