Baxter girls cruise past Waterloo Christian

BAXTER — Kaylin Van Ryswyk tallied a double-double, Baxter’s defense was stout and the Bolts’ girls basketball team defeated Waterloo Christian 50-14 at home on Feb. 1 during an Iowa Star Conference cross-division contest.

Van Ryswyk finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Holly Jessen tallied 10 points and Sophie Meyer chipped in seven points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Baxter led 10-4 after one quarter and held a 22-7 advantage at the break. The Bolts won the third quarter 12-0 and then tallied a 16-7 surplus in the fourth.

Sadie Meyer tallied nine points for Baxter, who had 18 assists on its 21 made field goals. Lilie Vansice scored six points, Sydney Schmidt grabbed five rebounds, Brenna Thomson collected five steals and Caitlyn Bruntz dished out six assists.

The Bolts finished with 17 steals in the win, getting two each from Maddie Pierce, Schmidt and Vansice.

Waterloo Christian dropped to 0-19 on the season.

The Bolts open Class 1A regional tournament play against Grand View Christian at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 in Baxter.

Collins-Maxwell 49, Baxter 35

COLLINS — Collins-Maxwell broke open a close game with a 17-4 advantage in the fourth quarter during a 49-35 home win over Baxter on Feb. 2 during a throwback game at the Collins Elementary School during Iowa Star Conference South Division action.

Van Ryswyk scored 10 points and grabbed five boards, Sophie Meyer had six points and three steals and Jessen chipped in five points and five rebounds to lead the Bolts (6-11 overall, 4-6 in conference play).

McKenzie Eslinger scored six points and Bruntz swiped five steals.

Collins-Maxwell improved to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
