Baxter boys run away from Collins-Maxwell, Waterloo Christian

COLLINS — Will Clapper had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds as Baxter’s boys’ basketball team cruised past Collins-Maxwell during a throwback game at the Collins Elementary School Feb. 2 during an Iowa Star Conference South Division contest.

The Bolts (7-9 overall, 5-4 in conference play) led 21-7 after one quarter and went into halftime with 37-13 advantage. Collins-Maxwell fell to 4-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

Clapper was 8-of-12 from the floor. Cole Damman added 18 points, six assists and four rebounds and Carter Nelsen chipped in 10 points and six boards.

Tyler Titus collected four points and five rebounds and Brendyn Padget dished out four assists.

Baxter plays Lynnville-Sully at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 in Sully.

Baxter 73, Waterloo Christian 46

BAXTER — The Bolts snapped a three-game losing skid with an easy home victory over Waterloo Christian on Feb. 1 during an Iowa Star Conference cross-division contest.

Clapper scored a career-high 29 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had three steals as the Bolts led 20-8 after one quarter and led 37-16 at halftime.

Damman tallied 15 points, seven assists and four rebounds, Nelsen chipped in 14 points and eight boards and Padget added nine points and six rebounds.

Baxter (6-9) was 4-of-19 from 3-point range but hit 70 percent of its shots from two-point range. Clapper was 14-of-19 from the floor, Nelsen was 7-of-9 and Padget finished 4-of-5.

Ian Thomson and Titus both had three assists and Clapper and Nelsen collected two assists.

The Bolts finished with 21 assists in the win.

Waterloo Christian (1-18) dropped its sixth straight game.
