$1 million Mega Millions prize sold at Colfax Kum & Go

Someone in or passing through Colfax has just become the luckiest person just off Interstate 80. The Iowa Lottery reported Wednesday a $1 million Mega Millions prize was purchased Tuesday night at the Colfax Kum & Go.

The convenience store which sold the winning ticket is located at 1200 N. Walnut St. near the eastbound I-80 exit ramp. The ticket was within one number of matching all six numbers needed to at least tie for the $55 million jackpot. According to a press release from Iowa Lottery External Relations, the Mega Ball number was the only number missed.

Since nobody matched all six numbers, the prize amount will climb to a $68 million annuity, or $40.6 million lump-sum option, for Friday's drawing.

The winning numbers from Tuesday were 29, 52, 58, 60, 62, a Mega Ball number of 7, and a Megaplier number of 2. A second $1 million ticket was sold in California, the release said.

Prizes must be claimed at the Iowa Lottery headquarters, located at 13001 University Ave. in Clive. For additional questions, winners can call 515-725-7900.

This is not the first time in recent memory that a winning lottery ticket was purchased in Colfax. In January 2018, a $1 million Powerball ticket was also purchased at the same Kum & Go store by Colfax resident George Dickerson. According to previous Newton Daily News reports, that store received a $1,000 bonus from the lottery for selling a $1 million Powerball ticket.
