Tigerhawks finish SICL dual season with two more wins

MARENGO — Four wrestlers went 3-0 on the night, and Colfax-Mingo’s wrestling team picked up two more South Iowa Cedar League dual wins on Jan. 17.

Seniors Cauy Fitch and Damir Gumerov and juniors Hunter Green and Cyden Fitch each won all three of their matches, and the Tigerhawks defeated BGM 66-12 and took down North Mahaska 48-26.

Iowa Valley was given two forfeits by the Tigerhawks and won that dual 46-24 over Colfax-Mingo.

Cauy Fitch improved to 25-2 on the season at 120 pounds. His three wins makes him the school record holder for career wins at 134.

Fitch, who won two matches by fall and one by forfeit, passed former teammate Colton Lourens for most wins in school history. Lourens finished his career last season with 132.

Cyden Fitch and Green both had two pins on the night in their respective weights. Cyden Fitch is now 23-1 as he had two first-period pins and a 7-0 win at 138. Green also took a forfeit.

Cyden Fitch recorded his pins in 16 seconds and 43 seconds. He has 87 career wins.

Gumerov is now 22-6 after recording a win by fall, a win by forfeit and a win by 11-7 decision.

Winning two of their matches on the night were juniors Trystin Ross and Noah Strohmeyer and freshmen Kenny Schlosser and Gaven Slycord. Ross, Strohmeyer and Schlosser all won one match by fall and one by forfeit and Slycord took a pair of forfeits.

Against BGM, the Tigerhawks were given six forfeits and went 5-2 with five pins in contested matches.

In the dual against North Mahaska, Colfax-Mingo took six forfeits and finished 2-5 in contested matches.

The two wins came by fall from Cyden Fitch and Ross.

In the loss to Iowa Valley, the Tigers were given two forfeits and only defeated the Tigerhawks 6-5 in contested matches.

Five of Iowa Valley’s contested wins came by fall and the other by major decision.

Colfax-Mingo’s five contested wins came from Strohmeyer, Cauy Fitch and Green by fall and from Cyden Fitch and Gumerov by decision.

The Tigerhawks’ home dual tournament scheduled for Jan. 19 was canceled due to weather. They went to Moravia on Jan. 22 and compete in the SICL tournament at 10 a.m. in Thornburg.
