PCM wrestling cruises past Saydel

DES MOINES — PCM’s wrestling team completed another perfect run through the Heart of Iowa Conference dual season with an easy win over Saydel on Jan. 17.

The Class 2A sixth-ranked Mustangs took eight forfeits and went 4-1 in contested matches during a 70-6 road victory.

Junior Seth Greiner and sophomore Colby Tool both won their matches by fall, and seniors Cody Wallace and Wes Cummings each claimed a win by technical fall.

Forfeits were given to seniors Jarron Trausch (170), Lucas Roland (182), Clay Van Wyk (132) and Chance Palm (138), junior Payton Drake (120) and sophomores Landon Fenton (126) and Cooper Sloan (195).

Third-ranked Tool (32-1) pinned Jake Van Houten in the second period, while Greiner (16-15) moved his season record to above .500 when he pinned Noah Stewart in the third period.

Tool has won 31 straight matches. His only loss this season came against 3A No. 6 Eric Owens of Ankeny Centennial.

Second-ranked Cummings earned a 17-2 technical fall win over Trevor Lause at 160 pounds. Wallace (27-7) won his 152-pound match 19-3 over Austin Pyles.

Cummings is now 29-2 on the season and he’s got 148 career victories.

A new set of rankings from The Predicament came out on Jan. 17.

Aside from Cummings and Tool, Trausch (30-3) is third at 170, Roland (14-2) is third at 182, Fenton (14-1) is fourth at 113 and Drake (25-5) is sixth at 126.

The HOIC tournament on Jan. 18 and the Ed Winger tournament hosted by Urbandale on Jan. 19 were both canceled because of weather.

PCM takes part in a triangular against Van Meter and ADM of Adel at 6 p.m. on Jan. 24 in Van Meter.
