Mayoral appointments made for city boards

Several pieces of official city business were approved by the Monroe City Council during its recent meeting. The mayoral appointments to several boards including the board of adjustment, zoning board and library board were filled out along with the designation of the city attorney and official newspapers.

Serving as mayor pro team is councilman Jeff Hegwood in the absence of mayor Doug Duinick. Councilwoman Jean Goemaat serves on the water and sewer committee, councilwoman Andrea Steenhoek covers streets, councilwoman Jennifer St. Peter is on parks and cemetery and councilman Nate Bradbury works on public safety and the police and fire departments.

"Normally he just assigns people to different departments. Last year he did assignments and everybody just decided to stay the same for this year," city clerk Kim Thomas said. "(The citizens) basically just stay the same on their boards until they quit and then we find someone new."

The fire chief is Rob Wilson, Nick Chambers serves as police chief and Diana Cruz and Steven Wright serve with the police department. Jeff Timmons is the public work director and Marc Van Wyk serves as the water and sewer superintendent. Andrea Lanphier works as the city’s utility billing clerk.

Appointed to the board of adjustment in 2019 are Scott Mavis, Sherri Breckenridge, Melissa Van Der Hart, Charles Burns, Richard Albers and Gary Munson. Patty Duinick, Leroy Kinart, Nick Steenhoek, Kathy Van Veen, Brian Briles, Donita Breckenridge and Cary Diekema serve on the zoning board. The library board consists of Berta Van Ekeren, Nancy Wright, Judy Brodersen, Mary Sellers, Jeanne Van Genderen and Matt Raush.

Fire Chief Rob Wilson serves at the 911 representative with police chief Chambers and mayor Duinick as alternates.
