PCM basketball swept by Pella

PELLA — Senior Camryn Wignall scored 13 points, but Prairie City-Monroe’s girls’ basketball team struggled to slow down Pella’s inside game and transition offense on Monday night.

PCM fell behind 39-13 at halftime and never recovered during a 69-32 non-conference road loss.

Wignall scored 11 of her 13 points in the third quarter. She hit three 3-pointers.

Junior Regan Freland added five points, five rebounds and three assists and sophomore Lilli Baird tallied five points and five boards for the Mustangs (5-9), who have lost three straight games.

Sophomore Emma George had three points and five rebounds, sophomore Celeste Wagaman scored four points and junior Sierra Foster had two rebounds and two assists.

Emily Holterhaus scored 19 points for Pella (8-5).

BOYS

Pella 74, PCM 61

PCM’s boys led by seven at halftime but were outscored 29-15 in the third, and Class 3A No. 4 Pella rallied for a 74-61 non-conference home win.

The Mustangs (7-5) were led by senior Isaac Telfer, who scored a career-high 21 points. Senior Andrew Van Ryswyk added 18 points and junior Derek Brown scored 10 points.

Senior Reed Worth was held to five points, and junior Jason Stafford chipped in four points.

The Mustang starters accounted for 58 of the team’s 61 points.

Pella senior Ryan Gustafson scored a team-high 20 points.

Pella (10-2) has won eight straight games.

PCM’s basketball teams host Roland-Story for a girl-boy varsity doubleheader on Tuesday night. The girls’ game tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
