Newton Police Department

• Ashley N. Reed, 37, of Newton, was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief at 1:35 p.m. Dec. 18. Benjamin J.J. Grulke, 33, of Prairie City, was also charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief. According to Newton police, both suspects and another unarmed accomplice entered a residence in the 500 block of North Third Avenue East without permission. Witnesses saw them go in with a backpack. Officers discovered a PlayStation 4, valued at $200, was stolen. Reed and Grulke were arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Alexis M. Straight, 27, of Newton, was charged with fourth-degree theft at 4:25 p.m. Saturday. According to Newton police, an officer was sent to the 600 block of East 22nd Street South for a failed cab bill to City & Yellow Cab from Cedar Rapids. After investigating, the officer determined Straight allegedly lied to the cab driver about paying the cab bill, totaling $286. Straight said she was looking for the money in her home and the officer allowed her to look but was unable to find it. Straight was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
