PCM boys fall to No. 6 South Hamilton

JEWELL — Class 2A No. 6 South Hamilton used a big second half to pull away from the PCM boys during a HOIC game on Jan. 4.

Senior Andrew Van Ryswyk scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and senior Isaac Telfer added a career-high 16 points, but the Mustangs were outscored 40-26 in the second half during a 69-53 road loss.

PCM led 12-11 after one but trailed 29-27 at halftime. The Mustangs were outscored 21-13 in the third and 19-13 in the fourth.

The Hawks (10-1, 6-1) have now won four straight games. Cade Balvanz scored 12 points above his season average, putting in a game-high 22 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Logan Peters, Cole Berg and Conner Hill all scored 12 points for South Hamilton.

Hill went over 1,000 points for his career in the game, too.

PCM senior Reed Worth came into the game averaging nearly 24 points per game but was held to eight in the loss. He missed part of the game with an injury but returned in the fourth quarter.

Worth finished 2-of-11 from the floor. He also had three assists and two steals. Telfer and junior Derek Brown each had four assists and three steals, junior Jason Stafford had three assists and three rebounds and Van Ryswyk blocked two shot.

Stafford scored five points and Brown contributed three points. The PCM starters accounted for all 53 points.

South Hamilton out-rebounded the Mustangs 42-23. PCM (6-3, 5-2) was 19-of-48 from the floor and 5-of-20 from 3-point range.

PCM played Fairfield on Jan. 8.

The Mustangs host North Polk at 6 p.m. on Jan. 11 in Monroe.
