Iowa Policy Project program rescheduled for Saturday

Mike Owen, executive director of the Iowa Policy Project (IPP), will present the IPP’s analysis regarding the diversion and expansion of taxpayer funds to private schools through the creation of Education Savings Grants (vouchers) at noon Saturday at the EJH Beard Administration Building, 1302 First Ave. W. in Newton. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.

Public schools are funded with property tax dollars, state sales taxes and state income taxes. Currently Iowa taxpayers are funding private schools in the amount of approximately $66 million each year. Creation of Education Savings Grants would increase this figure by many millions of dollars.

Iowa Policy Project is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on research and analysis of state policy decisions. Issues studied include tax and budget issues, economic opportunity and family prosperity and energy and environmental policy.

The event is free and open to the public. This program is co-sponsored by the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) and the Red Rock Social Justice Advocates.
