Newton Police

Department

• Jeremy D. Bruce, 36, of Newton, was charged with carrying weapons and possession of a controlled substance at 8:09 a.m. Monday. According to Newton Police, officers were sent to Casey’s on First Avenue East for a possible intoxicated male passed out inside a vehicle. Officers found the vehicle still running with Bruce allegedly asleep inside sitting in the driver’s seat. Officers also smelled an odor of marijuana. An officer asked Bruce to exit the vehicle and searched him, finding a plastic bag with a leafy green substance, later confirmed to be marijuana, along with a black .380 caliber Kel-Tech handgun (for which the permit expired in 2016) in his back pocket. Bruce was arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail.
