Streeter filling open school board seat

With only 30 days allowed to appoint a new member, the PCM school board looked to a familiar face to fill the seat. Former board member Mike Streeter agreed to serve the remainder of the term for Alvin Keuning’s position and was appointed to board during a special meeting Dec. 5.

Keuning passed away after a battle with cancer Nov. 6. His district, which encompasses most of the land between the city limits of Monroe and Prairie City, had to have a new representative within 30 days of his departure if an appointment was to be made.

Following a re-districting several years ago, Streeter’s address moved into Keuning’s district and out of his former district where he served six years on the board, which is now represented by Greg Engle. Streeter will serve out the final 11 months of Keuning’s term until the election is held in November 2019.

“I feel that having had past board experience, I would be able to help out and get up and running, the learning curve might be a little shorter,” Streeter said. “I do have a passion for kids and I think that I can assist the district throughout the 11 months.”
