Baxter wrestlers place eighth at STC

TAMA — Baxter’s wrestling team struggle with a short-handed lineup during the South Tama County dual tournament on Saturday.

The Bolts lost all five duals and finished eighth overall.

The only win of the day came by forfeit for sophomore Brad Matthews. He was given a forfeit at 152 pounds during the eighth-place match against Vinton-Shellsburg.

Baxter opened the tournament with a 77-0 loss to South Tama.

The Bolts also were defeated 59-0 by Dubuque Wahlert, 84-0 by Independence, 77-0 by Des Moines East and 60-6 by Vinton-Shellsburg.

Senior Austin Good came into the day 5-1 but only wrestled in one match after suffering a loss by injury time against the Trojans in the first dual of the day.

Baxter’s next scheduled meet is at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 at English Valleys High School in North English.
