Baxter can’t find win column at North Tama

TRAER — Baxter senior Austin Good was 3-0 on the night, but the Bolts’ wrestling team couldn’t find the win column during a quadrangular at North Tama High School on Dec. 6.

The Bolts lost to Columbus Catholic 30-24, were defeated by AGWSR 47-24 and were beaten 64-6 by host North Tama.

Good won all three of his matches, winning twice by fall and once by forfeit. He’s now 5-1 on the season.

Sophomore Micah Kearns was 2-1 with two forfeits on the night.

Senior Ben Huff and freshman Austin Roush both picked up a win by fall and sophomore Brad Matthews and freshman Nick Nelsen won the team’s other matches by forfeit.

Short-handed Bolts place eighth at STC

TAMA — Baxter’s wrestling team struggle with a short-handed lineup during the South Tama County dual tournament on Dec. 8.

The Bolts lost all five matches and finished eighth overall. The only win of the day came by forfeit for sophomore Brad Matthews. He was given a forfeit at 152 pounds during the eighth-place match against Vinton-Shellsburg.

Baxter opened the tournament with a 77-0 loss to South Tama. The Bolts were also defeated 59-0 by Dubuque Wahlert, 84-0 by Independence, 77-0 by Des Moines East and 60-6 by Vinton-Shellsburg.

Senior Austin Good came into the day 5-1 but only wrestled in one match after suffering a loss by injury time against the Trojans in the first dual of the day.

Baxter’s next scheduled meet is at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 at English Valleys High School.
