Marilyn Huedepohl Denniston was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Clinton, to Ernest and Kalma (Hole) Huedepohl. In 1940, the family moved to their farm northeast of Williamsburg. Marilyn grew up there attending parochial school and Williamsburg High Schools, graduating in 1952. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1956.

She married Charles Denniston in Newton Oct. 12, 1957. They were blessed with three children, Jeff, Jon and Kristin. She was a stay at home mom until all graduated from high school, then established a Women’s Boutique in Newton. She also had a large class of piano students in Newton.

Marilyn and Chuck moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 2000 for 14 years in retirement. They were active in golf and bowling. They were very active in United Lutheran Church, singing in the church choir with Marilyn accompanying the choir and orchestra. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Marilyn passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, at the age of 84.

She is survived by her husband, Chuck of Williamsburg; two sons, Jeffrey (Elise) Denniston of Des Moines and Jon (Michelle) Denniston of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Kristin (Shane) Morris of Manchester; five grandchildren, Emma (Levi) Ratliff of Oskaloosa, Jake (fiancé Anna) Denniston of Clive, Lexie Denniston of Iowa City, Claire (Dylan) DeJong of Colfax and Lydia Denniston of Oskaloosa; a great-grandson, Henry Ratliff; a brother, Ralph “Fritz” (Bonnie) Huedepohl of Williamsburg; a sister-in-law, Lynne Huedepohl of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Donn (Judy) Denniston of White Lake, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Highland Ridge Presbyterian Home in Williamsburg or Iowa City Hospice.
