ALLEMAN — A fast start helped Prairie City-Monroe’s boys’ basketball team grab an early lead against North Polk and a strong finish pushed the Mustangs to a 78-52 road victory during Heart of Iowa Conference action on Tuesday night.
Senior Reed Worth scored 26 points and grabbed six rebounds and senior Andrew Van Ryswyk tallied another double-double with 23 points and 10 boards as the Mustangs outscored North Polk 21-10 in the first and 20-8 in the fourth.
Junior Jason Stafford tallied 12 points, five rebounds and nine assists in the win.
Senior Isaac Telfer scored seven points and had five boards, and junior Derek Brown grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists.
PCM had an 11-point advantage from the free-throw line, making 15-of-21.
North Polk was 4-of-12 from the charity stripe.
The Mustangs (2-1 overall, 2-0 in conference games) play Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Gilbert.
The Comets fell to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
