Trial in alleged $100K motorcycle theft begins Wednesday

The trial for 39-year-old Joel C. Case, a Jasper County man accused in the alleged theft of an estimated $100,000 in motorcycles, will begin jury selection Wednesday.

Case will be represented by defense attorney Richard Phelps in Jasper County District Court, presided over by District Court Judge Thomas Murphy.

Case was arrested in January 2017 and charged with first-degree theft and altering and changing vehicle identification numbers.

The Newton Daily News previously reported the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Pleasant Hill Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol Motor Theft Division collaborated in the investigation and conducted a search warrant for stolen property at a storage location in Pleasant Hill.

Court records indicate Case was held at Jasper County Jail on a $10,000 surety bond.
