Christmas lighting contest back for 5th year

Judging set for Dec. 15

Calling all Christmas lights enthusiasts. The Prairie City Business Association is once again looking for the top display for the fifth annual PCBA Christmas Lights competition.

Set for Dec. 15, participants can compete in three categories — unique, uniform and traditional. Unique and uniform are new to the 2018 edition of the competition, giving eager parties a new challenge.

“We just wanted to gain more participants,” PCBA member and organizer Sheryl Plate said.

Judges will make their rounds after 5 p.m. to see who has the top displays for the season.

Along with bragging rights for the year, the three winners will be awarded prizes for their efforts. Each first place winner will be given $100 PC Bucks which they will be able to spend at participating Prairie City businesses.

The contest is aimed at residents within a mile of the Prairie City city limits. Homeowners and businesses are encouraged to put up lights, trees, wreaths or any holiday decor. Displays are not just limited to Christmas. Those who celebrate any year-end holiday tradition are welcome to participate.

“There has been good participation in the last few years,” Plate said.

Any questions can be directed to Plate at 515-994-2619.
