• Joseph M. Wright, 23, of Newton, was charged with first-degree burglary at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. According to Newton police, officers responded to a call from witnesses seeing a male kick in a back door of a property in the 700 block of East Eighth Street South. Officers learned the male, Wright, allegedly punched the victim several times in the face, causing bodily injury to his face. Wright also allegedly stole the victim’s 65-inch, $850 television, caused $300 damage to a wall by punching a hole in it and threatened to beat up the victim every time he saw him. Officers located Wright, arrested him and transported him to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kimberly K. Kopet, 46, of Newton, was charged with assault at 8:02 p.m. Tuesday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to The Manhattan in downtown Newton on a call of an assault. Witnesses told officers Kopet allegedly pushed the victim. Officers went to Kopet’s residence and interviewed her, where she confirmed pushing the victim, but also added the victim pushed her. Kopet received a citation and is summoned to appear in court.
