Four things to know from the Baxter City Council meeting

1. The City of Baxter will now have two meetings every month, on the second and fourth Monday of each month. The idea was brought up during an October city council meeting when it was realized city council members were holding more special meetings than usual. That idea was passed Monday night.

2. City council members were updated that all the yield signs in Baxter have been replaced by stop signs. Among the intersections that received stop signs include roads traveling west approaching Walnut Avenue and Allan Avenue, traveling east approaching East Fox Avenue and South High Street, traveling east approaching East Watson Avenue and South High Street and traveling south approaching the Polk Street and Kimberly Lane intersection.

3. City council members voted in favor of a Community Development Block Grant to the Iowa Economic Development Authority in order to fund improvements to Baxter’s sanitary sewer system, drinking water system and stormwater system near South West Avenue.

4. City council members voted unanimously to pass a resolution authorizing city clerk Peg Kimberly to close the City of Baxter medical clinic equipment savings account at State Savings Bank and transfer the money from there to the city’s checking account as general fund revenue.
