Police Blotter Nov. 6, 2018

Newton Police Department

• Gage B. Wedeking, 18, of Newton, was charged with criminal mischief at 10:45 p.m. Oct. 23. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Yes Way on a call of criminal mischief. Officers made contact with the store clerk, who said Wedeking came into the store and allegedly tried to pick a fight with him in reference to a misunderstanding with a girlfriend. After the clerk declined to fight, Wedeking kicked and broke a front window of the store and ran away. The next day, officers located Wedeking, who admitted to breaking the window, which is estimated to cost $2,955. He was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jason T. Purtilo, 35, presumably homeless, was charged with trespassing at 8:10 p.m. Thursday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Hy-Vee on a call of someone causing problems and wanting to fight people. After officers investigated, it was determined Purtilo had a trespass noticed issued to him in July and wasn’t supposed to be there. He was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
