Jack Lee Rhone, 84, of Colfax, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service will at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Colfax United Methodist Church, the Colfax Senior Center or the Alzheimer’s Association. The son of Vessie E. and Esther A. (Beals) Rhone, Jack was born April 26, 1934, in Des Moines. On Aug. 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Thompson at the Methodist Church in Colfax. Jack worked for the State of Iowa in maintenance for more than 20 years. He was a 60+ year member of the Colfax UnitedMethodist Church, active in 4H, the Grange, Kiwanis, the Colfax Historical Society and the Blue Grass Association (SPBGMA). A life time resident of Colfax, Jack enjoyed wood carving, making jewelry, camping, fishing, mushroom hunting and bluegrass music. His family was the most important thing in his life. He especially enjoyed attending all of his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids sports events, even though he was not a sports fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marilyn; his children, Robert and Nancy (Stevens) Rhone, Donna and Jon Harvey, Joyce and Mike Castell and Patti and LeRoy Hanna; grandchildren, Gina (Justin) Teed, Jeremy and Crystal (Parks) Rhone, Dave and Jeannie (Smith) Rhone, Faye Davis, Brandon Davis, Aaron and Jessica (Harvey) Post and Jonathan Harvey; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Janet (John) Gunsaulus and Donna Thompson. Preceding Jack in death were his parents; parents-in-law; and brother-in-law, Ron Thompson.
