Hawks win Silver Quad; finish fourth in SICL

SIGOURNEY — Hard work paid off for Lynnville-Sully’s Hawk volleyball team on Thursday. The Hawks netted back-to-back three-set wins to win the South Iowa Cedar League Silver Quad.

The Hawks improved to 14-12 overall. They finished 7-5 in SICL matches and took fourth in the conference.

Lynnville-Sully beat North Mahaska in the opening round 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.

Junior Mallory Loftus pounded down 10 kills, had five solo blocks and one assisted block to lead the Hawks’ net attack.

Senior Carson Fisk had nine kills and sophomore Krystal Van Dyke delivered seven kills. Van Dyke also had three solo blocks.

Sophomore Korinne Jansen put down eight kills and senior Shiloh Cunningham had six kills and one solo block.

Junior setter Janelle Rozendaal was credited with 24 set assists and Cunningham had three set assists.

Jansen came up with 16 digs and senior libero Makayla Rozendaal had 15 digs. Cunningham and Fisk each had 14 digs.

Janelle Rozendaal made eight digs and Van Dyke had five digs.

Van Dyke had two ace serves, going 11-of-12 at the service line. Janelle Rozendaal was 15-of-15 with one ace and Jansen was 15-of-15.

Cunningham went 17-of-18 serving. She and Fisk each had a service ace. Fisk was 9-of-9 and Loftus was 8-of-8 serving.

Lynnville-Sully faced host Sigourney for the quad championship. The Hawks beat the Savages 25-22, 25-20 25-17.

Fisk and Loftus delivered nine kills apiece at the net. Van Dyke had five kills while Cunningham and Janelle Rozendaal had two kills each. Jansen had one kill.

Van Dyke provided six solo blocks for the Hawks. Cunningham and Loftus each had two solo blocks. Fisk had a block assist.

Janelle Rozendaal had 17 set assists and Cunningham had four set assists.

Cunningham served up three aces as she went 18-of-19 serving. Loftus was 19-of-19 with one ace. Van Dyke was 11-of-11 with one ace.

The Hawks were 80-of-84 serving as a team for 95 percent. Janelle Rozendaal went 16-of-17.

Jansen was 7-of-7 and Fisk went 7-of-8 serving. Senior Kaylee Maasdam was 2-of-3.

Defensively, Fisk came up with 18 digs followed by Janelle Rozendaal with 13. Jansen and Makayla Rozendaal had 12 digs each.

Cunningham had nine digs. Loftus had four digs and Van Dyke had three.

Lynnville-Sully opens Class 1A Region 7 tournament action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against Melcher-Dallas at home in Sully.

Lynnville-Sully is slated to host a second-round match as well on Oct. 22.
