Readers will be in paradise this weekend thanks to a local, annual book sale.

United Way of Jasper County, 312 First Ave. West in Newton, will hold its third book sale Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Jessica Lowe Vokes, UWJC executive director, said nobody is concerned about UWJC running out of books during the event.

“They’ve been really successful, and they’ve grown each time,” Lowe Vokes said. “We have tons of books, and we’ll keep bringing out new books. As we sell books, we put out more.”

Almost all books will cost $1, and books of all genres will be available. All books were donated to UWJC.

Cardinals United student volunteers will be working on the event, setting up and tearing down everything. Also, for the first time at the event, a bake sale will take place, thanks to US Bank.

“If you’re going to get a book, you might as well get a tasty treat and eat it,” Lowe Vokes said. “Books and bake sales just, kind of, go together.”

All of the money goes to UWJC to help fund the programs that they run.
