Scott Louis Markusch, 59, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home. A celebration of Scott’s life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at the VA Chapel, 1301 Summit St. in Marshalltown. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A graveside service will then be at noon Oct. 6 at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a lunch at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown may be left at the services or at the funeral home.

Scott, the son of Deane Lewis and Bonnie (Anderson) Markusch, was born May 22, 1959, in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1978. Scott served his country in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear technician from 1981-1985. After the service, he made his home in Baltimore for 30 years. While living there he volunteered and worked at the Greater Grace Outreach Church. In addition, he received a degree in theological studies from the Maryland Bible College and Seminary. Scott also worked as a laser tech for 15 years at Lenox Laser. In January of 2015, Scott moved back to Iowa living at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. While there he began a bible study and enjoyed teaching the word of God. Scott wanted to be remembered as a “Servant of the Lord.”

Scott is survived by his siblings, Holli Hillmer (Michael Carr), Bradd (Susan) Markusch of Englewood, Colo., and Vicki Markusch of Marshalltown; and nieces and nephews, Addie Hillmer (Jacob Manternach), Libbie Hillmer (Brian Norman), Lillian Markusch, Holden Hillmer (Payton Alvord) and Deane Markusch. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clint Markusch.
