Police Blotter Sept. 17, 2018

Newton Police

Department

• Marcus W. Reeves, 20, of Newton, was charged with interference with official acts at 5:16 p.m. Sept. 6. Officers were sent to the 1700 block of West Fourth Street North to find Reeves, based on an active arrest warrant. Officers arrived and interviewed the homeowner of the residence and neighbors before Reeves was spotted exiting a window of the residence. According to a Newton Police report, Reeves allegedly ran north and officers chased him until he tripped in a soybean field on North 19th Avenue. Reeves later told officers he ran because he didn’t like the police and thought a urine sample he gave his probation officer would indicate narcotics and officers would, as a result, be looking for him. Reeves was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Jackson R. Heard, 27, of Newton, was charged with possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 1:24 a.m. Wednesday. According to a sheriff’s office report, a deputy pulled Heard over on Highway 14 for a traffic violation. While interviewing Heard, the deputy noticed a crystalline substance inside Heard’s 2018 Ford Taurus. After the substance tested positive for methamphetamines and discovering a syringe in the glove compartment, Heard was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
