Construction company DDJ Hospitality announces move to Newton

A large-project interior housing company announced Sunday it is moving its southeastern-Iowa based headquarters to Newton.

Doug, Dustin & Bryan Johnson, president, vice president and head of operations, respectively, for family-owned DDJ Hospitality, Inc., said in a press release they will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. Tuesday on their new six-acre property at the corner of East 19th Street North and North 33rd Avenue East, near TPI Composites.

Company officials said the public is welcome to attend.

“We can’t wait to get started here in Newton,” Dustin Johnson said. “Our current location in southeast Iowa has served us well, but even as we finished a major apartment project in Iowa City we began to realize that our business had begun to be more Central Iowa focused. So much so that we made the decision to move our headquarters to this area.”

According to the DDJ Hospitality vice president, plans for the property include a multi-business development.

“Our plans actually call for this to be only the first of several buildings we will construct on the site,” Johnson said. “We would ultimately like to create a campus with multiple tenants on site, not just our operation. We think it’s a great opportunity for us.”

Jasper County Economic Development Director Chaz Allen said the land was sold to DDJ Hospitality by JEDCO. The new company would bring both job growth and more economic drive to the area, he said.

“DDJ Hospitality is going to be an outstanding addition to the Jasper County family,” Allen said. “They’re bringing a bunch of employees with them. They have a record of success and a resume of projects that would be the envy of most any construction company. And on a personal level, I’m excited that they are as big of NASCAR fans as me.”

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the organization that sold the land to DDJ Hospitality.
