• Jeffrey D. Lee, 30, of Newton, was charged with public intoxication, second offense, at 1:59 a.m. Saturday. According to a report from Newton Police, officers were sent to the 400 block of East 27th Street South on a call of a domestic fight. When officers arrived, they knew from their call the suspect was intoxicated and heading northbound from the residence, found Lee and told him to get on the ground. Lee allegedly he refused. He eventually complied with the officer’s demands, when officers smelled an odor similar to alcohol from him. Lee refused a breath test, admitted to drinking enough alcohol to be over the legal limit, was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Randy R. Martin, 53, of Newton, was charged with assault causing bodily injury at 1 a.m. Monday. According to a report from Newton Police, an officer was sent to Skiff ER on a call of a potential assault. The officer arrived and met with Martin, who explained he and his son Randy Martin drove to Loves together. Randy and Richard got into an argument because Richard refused to lend Randy $5, and punched Richard several times in the head on their way home, causing swelling in Richard’s right eye and a cut. Randy was summoned to appear in court.

• Adam M. Bowen, 31, of Newton, was charged with two counts of controlled substance violation, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of prescription drugs at 6:44 p.m. Aug. 28. According to a Newton Police report, Bowen was found by officials of Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement (MINE) while allegedly in possession of 5.9 grams of methamphetamine and 39.2 grams of marijuana. MINE officials were sent to the 900 block of North Ninth Avenue East to execute a valid search warrant, where Bowen was found. Mareah E. Cornejo, 28, of Newton, was charged at the scene with unlawful prescription drug and possession of a controlled substance when she was allegedly found with 11 capsules of medication, marijuana and methamphetamine. Ian J. Chesshire, 33, of Newton, was also charged at the residence with possession of drug paraphernalia. Bowen, Cornejo and Chesshire were all arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail.

• Cody A. Wilson, 22, of Newton, was charged with public intoxication at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday. Officers were sent to the 1900 block of First Avenue East on a call for domestic assault. According to a Newton Police report, officers made contact with Wilson and a female accompanying him, and detected odor coming from Wilson, as well as bloodshot and watery eyes. Officers searched Wilson and found small bottles of alcohol after Wilson refused sobriety tests. Wilson was arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail.
