• Chasten G. Ross, 25, of Newton, was charged with violating a no-contact order at 2:20 a.m. Aug. 27. According to a police report, officers were sent to the 2200 block of South Eighth Avenue East on a call to investigate an intoxicated male. When officers arrived, they heard shouting from inside the residence and determined Ross was aiding a violation of a no-contact order from Des Moines. Ross was arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail. The female subject with Ross, Kady M. Kendall, 24, of Prairie City, was also charged with violating the no-contact order, was arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail.

• Sue A. McPherren, 58, of Newton, and Kenneth L. Fraaken, 55, of Des Moines, were both charged with fifth-degree theft at 3:22 p.m. Aug. 26. According to a police report, officers were sent to Walmart on a call for shoplifters. Officers met with loss prevention and learned two suspects allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for all the items in their cart. McPherren claimed she made an error at self-checkout and didn’t understand how it worked, resulting in about $168 worth of items not being paid for. Both suspects received citations.

• Biong R. Malow, 44, of Urbandale, was charged with his second offense of domestic assault at 6:04 p.m. Aug. 27. Officers were sent to the 1200 block of West Sixteenth Street South to respond to a domestic assault call. Officers made contact with the alleged victim, who said her husband, Malow, hit her on the head with a phone and punched her. The victim appeared to have swelling on her forehead and a scratch behind one of her ears. Malow was not at the residence but was found at another residence, and claimed there was an incident that took place, but said he was unsure if he hit her at all. Malow was arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail, and a no-contact order has been requested for Malow. According to a police report, Malow was also convicted with domestic assault in 2015 in Polk County.

• James N. Casteel, 35, was charged with public intoxication at 9:27 a.m. Aug. 27. An officer were sent to the 1800 block of North Second Avenue East to investigate a call of a suspicious male. According to a police report, Casteel was found acting shaky, licking his lips and claiming he was being followed. The officer asked Casteel when the last time he used methamphetamine was, and he responded Saturday. Casteel was arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail.
