Persistent rain floods Westwood golf

Strong storms and heavy rains since Thursday have caused waterways near and through Westwood Golf Course in Newton to flood low-lying portions of the complex. Jasper County farmland near streams has also been impacted and the South Skunk River as of Monday night was at 16.2 feet, less than two feet below flood stage. According to the National Weather Service, 7 to 10 inches of rain has fallen on central and south-central Iowa since Thursday and more is expected intermittently with a flash flood watch in effect in Jasper County through Wednesday.
