PCM football moves to 2-0, routs West Marshall

STATE CENTER — Class 2A No. 2 PCM led 22-6 at halftime and shut down sixth-ranked West Marshall in the second half during a 29-6 road win on Aug. 31.

The Mustangs are 2-0 for the first time since 2011 when they went 11-1 and reached the third round of the playoffs.

Senior Reed Worth threw for 132 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 114 yards and two scores in the win. The Mustangs (2-0) rushed for 292 yards as a team.

Senior Jarron Trausch got the scoring going in the first quarter with a 9-yard TD run. He had 46 rushing yards on eight carries in the game and also led the receivers with 62 yards on seven catches.

Worth made it 14-0 with a 38-yard TD run with 6 minutes to play in the quarter.

West Marshall’s only score of the game came 32 seconds later when senior quarterback Cameron Bannister got loose for a 71 yard TD run. He finished with 103 passing yards and 151 rushing yards in the game, but West Marshall (1-1) was held to nine first downs in the loss.

Worth and Bannister each threw one interception.

Worth put the Mustangs up 22-6 at halftime when he scored a 3-yard TD run early in the second quarter.

The final points of the game came midway through the third quarter. Worth hit senior Preston Van Wyk for a 28-yard TD.

PCM won the game despite committing 100 yards in penalties. The Mustangs had a 21-9 advantage in first downs and a 2-1 advantage in turnovers.

Senior Wes Cummings rushed for 132 yards on 15 carries. He also had 24 yards receiving on two catches. Senior Brayton Van Dyke had four catches for 18 yards.

The Mustang defense was led by junior Seth Greiner, who had seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Van Wyk had an interception that he returned 55 yards, and senior Brycen Rogers finished with 6 1/2 tackles. Senior Olin Meinders had four tackles.

The Mustangs host Roland-Story (1-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 in Monroe. The Norse lost 28-26 to 3A Gilbert in their week 2 game.
