C-M volleyball gets first win of season

LIBERTY CENTER — The Colfax-Mingo volleyball team recorded its first win of the season on Aug. 28.

The Tigerhawks swept Moravia 25-7, 25-19 in their first match of a quadrangular hosted by Southeast Warren.

In the other two matches, the host Warhawks beat Colfax-Mingo 25-13, 25-17 and Ankeny Christian Academy defeated the Tigerhawks 25-20, 25-16.

Colfax-Mingo is now 1-5 on the season.

In the win over Moravia, senior Colbee Cunningham had six kills and eight digs to lead the Tigerhawks.

Freshman Morgan Van Dyke added three kills and junior Shanen Shedenhelm and sophomore Chelsey Temple both had two kills.

Freshman Kyra Lester dished out 13 assists and was 17-of-17 in serves with seven aces.

The Tigerhawks had 11 aces in the win and were 45-of-49 in serves.

Senior Braedynn Rawlins had a team-high nine digs. Temple was 7-of-7 in serves with one ace and two digs, while senior Shaylee Shedenhelm was 7-of-8 with one ace and three digs.

In the loss against Southeast Warren, Cunningham finished with three kills and 10 digs. Van Dyke and Rawlins each had four kills and Lester finished with 12 assists and three aces.

Lester was 32-of-34 in serves with 11 aces in the three matches on the night.

Against ACA, Van Dyke had six kills, Lester finished with eight assists and sophomore Kira Warrick collected 11 digs.

Temple and Cunningham both had three kills.

The Tigerhawks hosted Class 1A No. 10 HLV in the South Iowa Cedar League opener on Sept. 4.

Colfax-Mingo hosts 1A No. 8 Montezuma at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 in Colfax.
