IOWA CITY — Iowa tackle Alaric Jackson and defensive lineman Cedrick Lattimore will be suspended for the season opener against Northern Illinois for violating team rules.
The Hawkeyes said in a release the suspensions aren’t for legal matters. Jackson and Lattimore’s issues surfaced in the late spring and both players were given guidelines to meet over the past 10 weeks.
“As a coach one of the most important decisions is to hold student-athletes accountable,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said.
“It is painful for the players and the team to impose a suspension, but we have high standards and there is an expectation all players abide by our rules.”
Ferentz called Jackson and Lattimore’s response “excellent.”
The loss of Jackson means that Iowa will face the Huskies on Sept. 1 without either of their starting tackles. Tristan Wirfs is suspended for one game after being charged with drunk driving on July 29.
Also previously given a one-game suspension is defensive lineman Brady Reiff.
