• Kristopher C.M. Walker, 39, of Newton, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and domestic abuse-assault after his girlfriend told police Walker forced his way into her apartment and assaulted her on Aug. 2. According to Newton police, the victim told investigators Walker assaulted her for sleeping with another man. The victim called 911 around 3:40 p.m. Police said she had redness on her neck, wrists, top of her foot and knees and reported Walker punched, kicked and strangled her, losing consciousness during the struggle. Walker allegedly grabbed his girlfriend’s cell phone during the assault and fled the scene. Walker also faces fifth-degree theft and obstruction of emergency communications charges. Walker was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Tyler B. Lake, 22, of Des Moines, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief July 24 for allegedly slashing tires on two separate cars around 1:30 a.m. outside a home in the 100 block of South Third Avenue East. According to a police report, one of the victims said he had surveillance footage allegedly showing Lake slashing the tires. Police said the subject in the video fled westbound on foot on South Third Avenue East. Lake told police he had been drinking and also took prescription cough medicine, which could have affected his memory of the incident, but Lake did not dispute the surveillance footage. Lake was released to appear in court.
