Prairie City News

We’re here for Prairie City

First, I want to thank all of you who read, subscribe to and advertise in the Prairie City News. We appreciate your support.

In 2014, Shaw Media, the parent company of the Newton Daily News and the third oldest family-owned media company in the United States, purchased the Prairie City News from Peter and Criste Scarnati. Since then, we have remained dedicated to covering your community and publishing a newspaper and a website that provides information that is important to your lives. We plan to continue doing just that.

Since purchasing the Prairie City News, Shaw Media also purchased the Monroe Legacy in July 2017, and previously purchased the Jasper County Tribune in 2013.

Along with these opportunities have come some logistical challenges — one being how to adequately staff offices located in three communities and still give the level of customer service you deserve. The nature of the jobs of our editor and reporters takes them away from the office setting on regular basis, often times with no notice.

In an effort to more efficiently serve our readers, effective Aug. 20, we will be publishing the Jasper County Tribune, Monroe Legacy and Prairie City News from our office in Newton at 200 First Ave. E. The Prairie City News phone number will now be 641-792-3121. News editor Jamee A. Pierson will work out of the Newton office along with page designer Dana King.

Though we will be moving our office, be assured we are committed to supporting Prairie City and will continue to provide you with the information you care about.

We want to make it easy to communicate face-to-face with our news editor. Office hours will be scheduled at a later date at a location in Prairie City for Pierson, making it simple for readers, subscribers and residents to discuss topics and news with our team. You can also schedule a meeting with Pierson at our Newton office.

A drop box for subscription renewals, after hours news submissions and advertisements will be placed in the city.

Again, thank you for your continued support.
