Full schedule planned at Red Rock lake this weekend

There’s always something happening at Lake Red Rock.. Check out these upcoming activities:

• Stargazing 101 will begin at 9 p.m. Friday at Whitebreast Campground. Attendees are to meet along main road near basketball hoop. Join Dr. Lee Wymore, amateur stargazer and biology teacher at Indian Hills Community College, to learn to identify some stars and constellations In our galaxy, the Milky Way. He’ll bring an 8 inch Dobsonian reflector telescope to observe the wonders of the night sky (cancelled if cloudy/raining).

• Nature Science will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Red Rock Visitor Center. Let’s break out the microscopes and take a closer look at what nature has to offer. No lab coat? No problem. Just bring your inquisitive mind.

• Tree I.D. Hike will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Whitebreast Campground. Come see the forest for the trees. Take a look at some of the different species growing along the Stu Kuyper Nature Trail and pick up a few tips how to identify them on your next outing.

• Let’s Go Paddling. will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Creek east ramp. Enjoy the chance to experience both canoeing and kayaking in the same day. Give one or both types of watercraft a try and see how much fun paddling can be. You must be at least 10 years old to use kayaks. Life jackets will be provided. Programs may be canceled if inclement weather and wind conditions.

• Red Rock Wildlife will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at North Overlook Campground (meet at playground). Learn about lake area critters that might pay you a visit on your next camping trip or hike. Lots of furs and skulls will be available for you to see and touch, and maybe a live critter or two will also be on hand as special guests.

• Stargazing 101 will begin at 9 p.m. Saturday at Whitebreast Campground.

• Nature Playtime will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Playscape. Nature is full of great adventures and new things to see, hear, smell and touch. Young children and their families can join us for short activities to investigate the world. Activities each week will have a different theme and may include stories, hikes, songs, or crafts.
