Baxter baseball ends season with loss to No. 6 Blue Devils

ST. MARYS —áThe Baxter baseball team’s first season as a program is officially over. The Bolts lost 12-0 in five innings to Class 1A No. 6 Martensdale-St. Marys on Tuesday night during the 1A District 12 quarterfinals.

The Bolts, who finished 3-19 this season, were held to one hit and one walk against two Blue Devil pitchers.

Sophomore Carter Nelsen singled and freshman Andrew Klemme drew a walk.

Senior Travis Lindemoen pitched for the final time in his prep career, taking the loss on the mound.

The Blue Devils (33-6) scored three runs in the first, one in the second and eight in the third to end the game early.

Senior all-stater Brady Gavin hit a pair of home runs and drove in five runs for the home team.

Gavin is batting .545 with 12 homers and 67 RBIs this season.

Aaron Allsup got the win on the mound after allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in three innings.

Esa Johanson tossed the final two innings and allowed no runs on no hits with four strikeouts.

Martensdale-St. Marys hosts North Mahaska in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday. The early game that night is Lynnville-Sully and Ankeny Christian Academy at 5 p.m. in St. Marys.
