Take the Summer Reading Challenge

June 4 – Aug. 4 — Why should kids have all the fun? Register for our adult summer reading program to play Summer Reading BINGO. Pick up your BINGO sheet from the library and ask a Librarian to stamp your sheet every time you check out a book or attend an adult program at the library. Complete a row of five squares to win a free adult movie ticket to the Capitol II Theatre. Continue filling out your card through Aug. 4 to earn a second movie ticket or other fun prizes. Participants with three or more completed rows will be entered into a grand prize drawing for a new Kindle Fire in August.

Family Movie at the Library

1 p.m. June 29 — Join us for Friday afternoon family movies during the summer. Movies begin at 1 p.m. and last between 90-115 minutes. Bring your own popcorn, lemonade is provided. Seating is on the floor, bring a pillow if you like. No registration required.

Blank Park Zoo Show & Tell

10:30 p.m. July 9 — Imagine the sound of wind blowing through grass in the prairie or the orchestras of insects singing in the rain forest — habitats are full of music. Join a Blank Park Zoo educator at the Library as we explore the songs and sounds of different habitats and meet animals from the zoo’s education department. This program will be held outside on the library lawn, and attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. For ages 3 to 12, no registration required.

Yoga at the Library

6 p.m. July 9 — Certified yoga instructor Meghan Davis, leads an introductory class for adults. No experience necessary. Attendees may bring a yoga mat or towel, if they like. This class is sponsored by the Newton YMCA. Call 641-792-4108 to register.

Kindness Rocks for Teens

1 p.m. July 10 — Join us at the library to paint “Kindness Rocks.” These rocks are hand painted and then hidden around town for others to find and hide again. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 13-18.

DIY @ the Library:
Painted Pots Herb Garden

2 p.m. July 11 or 6 p.m. July 12 — Make your own mini herb garden with hand painted pots and your choice of herbs. All materials provided. Attendees should plan on wearing clothing appropriate for painting. Please call 641-792-4108 to register for either at 2 p.m. Wednesday or at 6 p.m. Thursday. Ages 18 and older.

Drum Safari

1 p.m. July 13 — Join Drum Safari at the Library for a hands-on drumming program for kids. Families and children of all ages welcome. No registration required.
