Heartsill to be honored at farewell picnic Monday

The Jasper County Republican Central Committee will host a picnic in honor of retiring Iowa House District 28 Representative Greg Heartsill Monday.

The picnic will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Maytag Park west shelter, 301 S. 11th Ave. W., Newton.

The barbecue picnic will be catered by Moo’s BBQ by free will offering. This event is open to the public.

Iowa Republican Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann will be the featured speaker.

Local candidates will also be in attendance. Supervisor candidates Denny Carpenter and Brandon James Talsma will be in attendance, as well as Iowa House District 28 candidate Jon Thorup, Iowa House District 29 candidate Ann Howell and Iowa Senate District 15 candidate Tim Shay and U.S. Congress Second District candidate Dr. Christopher Peters.
