Caroll Thompson

Caroll Thompson, the son of Willard and Pauline Smith, was born Sept. 9, 1943, in Newton. He attended Newton schools. Caroll served his country in the United States Navy. Following his time in the service, he worked as a journeyman electrician across the United States, Central America and Europe. He spent a few summers in Eagle, AK, while he was building a school and panning for gold. Caroll enjoyed arrowhead hunting, fishing hunting and playing his guitar. Caroll was a longtime member of the Izaak Walton League and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Caroll died Monday, June 18, 2018, in Kellogg. He was 74 years old. Caroll was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Vernon Thompson; his sister, Rosalee Thompson; and a baby brother in infancy.

Those left to honor Caroll’s memory include his stepdaughter, Heather McFadden of Grinnell; his brother, Perry (Mary) Thompson of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 25 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the Izaak Walton League or the St. Labre Indian School.
