Tigerhawk baseball pulls away from Plainsmen

BELLE PLAINE — The Colfax-Mingo baseball team pulled away from Belle Plaine on the road on Friday night.

The Tigerhawks and Plainsmen were tied at 6-all after two innings, but Colfax-Mingo tallied 10 runs in the next three innings to win 16-6 in five innings during South Iowa Cedar League action.

Colfax-Mingo is now 10-3 overall and 9-2 in the SICL. Belle Plaine dropped to 5-7 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

Ten of the Tigerhawks’ 16 hits in the game came from the first four positions in the batting order, and the three other hits came from senior Reegan Van Dyke in the No. 8 spot in the lineup.

Senior Misha Seebeck finished with three hits, three runs and three RBIs to lead the offense, while sophomore Trinity Schroeder also had three hits and three RBIs while scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Van Dyke added 4 RBIs to hit his three-hit night and he also walked once and stole one base. Junior Zarek Hill and sophomore Trystin Ross each had two hits. Hill scored two runs, had one RBI and walked once and Ross finished with one walk and one RBI.

Freshman Zach Steenhoek walked four times in the game and scored two runs. Senior Alex Lewis scored two runs and sophomore Isaac Clouse added two RBIs.

Colfax-Mingo hit four doubles, drew eight walks and stole three bases.

Ross started on the mound but left in the second inning. He allowed six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Senior Jarod Nichols took the ball in relief and earned the win after throwing the final 3 2/3 innings. He allowed no runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

Colfax-Mingo plays BGM at 6 p.m. Monday in Brooklyn.
