DMACC rolls back tuition increase

DES MOINES — Des Moines Area Community College will rollback its tuition increase by $1 per credit hour for the upcoming 2019 fiscal year that starts on July 1. The new rate will be $156 per credit hour, rather than $157, and remains the lowest tuition and fees of any college or university in the State.

The DMACC Board of Trustees approved the rollback at their monthly meeting this week at the DMACC Urban Campus.

“Our students can thank their Legislators and Gov. Kim Reynolds for the reduced tuition increase this year,” DMACC President Rob Denson said. “The DMACC Board of Trustees work with us to do everything possible to keep tuition and fees affordable, even if that means cutting our tuition increase by one dollar.”

Denson said that even modest tuition increases heavily impact some students.

“Many of our students work to support themselves and their families while taking DMACC classes,” Denson said. “We realize the heavy impact any tuition increases have on our students. The fact that the Legislature restored $2 million of the recent cuts of approximately $4 million state-wide over the last year made this possible.”
