Marjorie D. Ryan, 86, of Newton, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Pella Regional Health Center. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association may be left at the church or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Marjorie, the daughter of John Wyatt and Jessie (Wilson) Wignall, was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Mystic. She was raised in Melrose, and spent her high school summers working as a cake decorator in Des Moines. Marge graduated from Melrose Senior High School in 1949. She worked a short time in the Maytag office and later she and her husband were co-owners of Hamilton’s Upholstery from 1964-1995.

On Dec. 30, 1950, Marge was united in marriage with Joseph “Joe” Ryan at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Marge was a past Brownie and Cub Scout leader along with being an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She also liked going to the Newton YMCA where she was a member of the senior water aerobics class known as “Twinges in the Hinges.” Marge loved cats, gardening, mushroom hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was also a great cook and baker.

Those left to honor Marge’s memory are her children, Robert “Buzz” (Brenda) Ryan, Karen (Dennis) Janssen and Linda Ryan (Jim Lamb); her grandchildren, Kristen (Jake) Rezac, Bryan (Missy) Janssen and Brad Janssen; her three great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Barb Wignall, Art and Elaine Ryan and David and Barb Ryan; and her nieces and nephews.
