Reed extends golf career to Central College

Once PCM senior Sabrina Reed realized she wanted to continue her golf career, there was really only one option at the next level.

She didn’t look much farther than 15 miles down the road.

Reed committed to Central College just before the regular season ended, and then made things official after playing in her first-ever girls state golf tournament.

Reed recently signed her national letter of intent to play golf with the Dutch.

“I never really considered going anywhere else,” Reed said. “It was close to home, which is what I wanted. I met the golf coach (Tim Wilkinson), and he was super nice. I visited the school, and it seemed to be the right place for me.”

Reed steadily improved her scores throughout her high school career.

As a freshman, Reed averaged 63.25 over nine holes and 129.5 on 18-hole courses. That averaged improved to 59.25 on nine holes and 112 on 18 holes her sophomore season.

Then, things really took off.

Reed helped PCM reach the regional finals as a team her junior season. Her nine-hole average improved to 50.20 with her best score being a 46. Her 18-hole average jumped to 96.57 and her best score was a 90.

Her final season as a Mustang was even better. She averaged 49.17 on her nine hole courses and had a best nine-hole score of 45. The 18-hole average was 91.86 and her best score was an 86.

Reed’s prep career culminated with a trip the state meet at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. She was in the top 20 after day one with a first-round score of 92. She finished in 28th after a second-round 99.

Reed just recently thought about playing golf at the next level. She doesn’t want it to end as she continues to improve her scores.

“I was getting better this year and I realized that I just don’t want it to end,” Reed said. “I want to keep getting better and see how well I can do.”

Reed plans to major in Business or English.
