Cloyd Byan Swarts

Cloyd Byan Swarts, 82, of Newton, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the VA Central Iowa in Des Moines. Services will be at a later date. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton is handling the arrangements.

Cloyd, the son of Bernard and Ada (Peckham) Swarts, was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Moulton. He was a graduate of Moulton High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. Cloyd was united in marriage with Sandra Colleen Moore July 2, 1961, in Centerville. He worked for the Maytag Company for 37.9 years before his retirement. He farmed outside of Newton for 50 years, which brought him great enjoyment. He was also a member of the UAW Local 997.

Cloyd is survived by his wife, Colleen of Newton; daughters, Susanne (Brian) Fort of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Kim Swarts of Drakesville; grandsons, Branden and Matthew Fort; his siblings, Boyd (Martha), Deloyd, Carolene (Dave) Purvis, Floyd (Connie), Vernon (Sheila) and Lyle (Kaye); and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Ilene Sleeth, Colene Selvy and Arlene De Cook.
